Carrying the Mamba Legacy Forward in Singapore

The Mamba Mentality

To me, Kobe Bryant’s Mamba Mentality has always been more than basketball. It embodies the relentless pursuit of excellence, the resilience to rise after setbacks and the courage to inspire others along the way.

When I first learnt that The Right Spin would be supporting Singapore’s very first art-led Kobe Bryant tribute, I felt a mix of awe and humility. This wasn’t just another campaign; it was a rare chance to honour a legacy that continues to influence people across generations and cultures.

Mamba Day 2025

I just realised how tall Kobe was after standing next to Jahan Loh’s sculpture of him!

On Mamba Day, 24 August 2025, Project 95 (P95) Basketball Academy and Limited Edt hosted an extraordinary event at AiRENA, Singapore’s first AI-powered sports facility. The centrepiece was a bespoke aluminium sculpture of Kobe Bryant by contemporary artist Jahan Loh, a one-of-a-kind work that symbolises perseverance and timeless inspiration.

Other programme highlights included a Kobe memorabilia showcase, where treasured artefacts told the story of his career and a parent-child basketball game in memory of Kobe and Gianna Bryant, underscoring the values of family, mentorship and generational inspiration that defined Kobe’s journey.

Reflections

Being a part of Mamba Day was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my journey in PR so far. My role was mostly behind the scenes: reaching out to local and regional media, engaging influencers and supporting teaser campaigns in the lead-up to the event.

It was exciting to see all our efforts come to life on the day itself, watching coverage being published, feeling the buzz online and witnessing audiences responding with such passion. It reminded me that PR is not just about publicity; it’s about bringing stories that matter into the world and connecting them with people who care.

At The Right Spin, opportunities like this affirm why we do what we do, creating impact that lasts beyond the headlines, which is something I find both meaningful and motivating.

Through this project, I also witnessed the Mamba Mentality touching lives in real time, from basketball fans reliving Kobe’s legacy to youths who see him as a beacon of ambition and determination. From the energy on social media to the raw emotions at the event, it was clear that Kobe’s stories continue to ignite conversations from those who draw strength from his mentality.

One moment that stood out for me was hearing P95’s Coach Russel’s story of meeting Kobe when he was just 17. As Russel ran shuttle sprints under the watchful eyes of a big crowd, Kobe cheered him on and pushed him to give his best. That simple act captured the essence of Kobe’s influence: he uplifted those around him, making them believe in their own potential.

Conclusion

For me, Mamba Day 2025 represents two things: celebrating Kobe’s greatness and the importance of carrying forward his values. I hope this tribute inspires the next generation in Singapore to find their own version of the Mamba Mentality, whether in sports, arts, academics or work.

As Kobe once said, “Greatness isn’t given, it’s earned”. Let’s honour that lesson and commit to demonstrating it in our lives.
